Activities

Archery- campers learn the basics of archery including safety, form, and equipment; then use those skills to hit stationary, moving, and long distance targets.

Shooting- campers learn the basics of target shooting including safety, form, and equipment; then use those skill to hit a series of targets, from stationary to floating.

Heritage- campers learn some of the basic tools used by cattlemen on a ranch. Campers learn how to use a lariat and whips as well learn how these tools were used.

Outdoor Cooking- campers will learn about the proper techniques and help prepare using not so common cooking methods.

Swamp Trekkin- campers take to Bull Creek in a trek along its banks and through its waters while learning how these beautiful systems works. Campers will need clothes that can get wet and possible stained; all safety equipment is provided i.e. life vests.

Creative Expressions Arts- campers get to unleash their creative sides in a non typical arts session. Campers use a variety of media, including paint, crafts, and nature objects as well as participate in creative writing. A great activity for escaping the mid-day heat.

Creative Drama- campers use their creative talents to create a short dramatic piece that they will perform in front of the camp. Campers write the script, create and dress the set, and make the props. All scenes will be videoed.

Trail biking- campers take to the woods on mountain bikes to explore the 4700-acres of Forever Florida. We also have a trail bike course for those that want to race the clock and the elements as they travel through swamps, over and around obstacles on their way to setting the best time.

Horseback Trail rides- campers ride through the 4700-acres of Forever Florida on our trail horses.

Arena Skills- for campers ages 10-11 this arena program teaches proper riding technique and helps improve a young rider’s ability. The program also contains times for using these skills to complete riding routines.

Arena Games- for campers ages 12 and up, this program helps improves a rider’s ability while they complete a variety of games and courses designed to test the skills of average riders.

Field Sports- campers compete in a variety of outdoor sporting activities, including soccer, volleyball, Frisbee golf and more.

Barn Work- for campers ages 12 and up, this program teaches the proper technique in handling and caring for horses. This is a work activity and campers will get sweaty and dirty.

Nature and Animal Lore- campers learn about the natural world around them, including a trip through the 4700-acres of Forever Florida aboard our swamp buggy as well as an animal encounter with some exotics animals from around the world and here in Florida.

The Mud Pit- our Mud Pit, where campers compete in mud football and other activities in a large water and mud filled pit, great for the mid-day heat and loads of fun.

Kayaking- campers take kayaks through our camp pond and meandering creek negotiating a course competing against other campers times.

Low Ropes- our improved Low Ropes course includes a new team building area where a team of campers most work together to complete a challenge. While on the traditional course campers negotiate our low ropes obstacle course working to improve their confidence, balance, strength, and attitude.

$ Paintball- campers break into teams and try to survive in our own paintball arena that includes towers, out buildings, nature and a new island fortress. Camp Illahaw supplies all the equipment including markers, paintballs, and safety equipment. Campers should bring pants and long sleeve shirt to use in this activity. Paint is 100% washable and does not stain clothes.li

$ Rawhide Round-up Cattle Round-up campers use the skills learned in the riding programs and put them to use working the cattle on the Crescent J Ranch. This program has campers riding deep into the ranch to learn the skills required to part, sort, and work cattle. New this year is the added use of our Cow Pens, where campers will learn how cattlemen sort, brand, and work cattle in a confined spaced. Campers will go out with their riding instructors as well as some of the Cattlemen of the Crescent J.

$ “Camper vs. Wild” Outdoor Survival like the TV series, campers have the chance to learn the skills necessary to survive when stranded in the woods. Campers go through a lesson period where they are taught the basic needs and skills of survival. After the teaching sessions are complete, campers are dropped off in the woods with their instructor, and in teams must use the skills they have learned to survive the night and find their way back to camp. Campers are led by trained staff and are supervised at all times. The instructor carries all supplies and necessary safety gear. Fee includes basic survival gear campers will use during the program.

$ Skeet Shooting campers learn the guidlines and importance of gun safety, and then are taught the basics of skeet and clay shooting. Campers are trained by a professional staff with years of gun safety and shooting experience. Campers have the chance to shoot at targets in a controlled and safe environment.

"Myth Breaking" bringing the science and fun of the popular TV series to camp, campers have the chance to recreate some of their favorite moments in a controlled, science based outdoor lab. Campers will have the chance to choose from a variety of classic experiements like "Mentosa and Diet Coke", "Whats Bulletproof", "Bull in a China Shop" and many more. The class is overseen by trained counselors with science backgrounds.
